One Belt and One Road Initiative of the Communist Party of China (CPP), An Epic Quest to Capture Dominant Geopolitical Power - to Lead to China Achieving Its Strategic Political & Military Goals OR Result to Epic Failure and Disastrous Financial Mess for Some Poor Countries? (Draft ... leisurely typed during a lazy afternoon)
  >>> in2strat.blogspot.com (new blog for vetted readers)

(This is from our May 14, 2017 Facebook post, the rest of photos / graphics from our old Facebook posts)
What is this initiative? It's a very ambitious dream of the top officials of the Communist Party of China (CPP), rather vague in its overall goals, to build a series of linked massive logistical infrastructures to more efficiently facilitate transport of goods & people mainly across the vast EurAsian continent.

In reality, it aims to serve the economic & geopolitical objectives & goals of the CPP in the next few decades that includes undermining the national interests of mostly 3rd World & mid-income countries by first dominating their economies & making them much more or overwhelmingly dependent to China for trade and manufactured goods (fake and genuine ones). It is present China's grand & crass attempt to not just match but surpass the US as the region's, & the world's pre-eminent superpower.

The goals of the CPP initiative also include weakening the economic then political ties between the participating countries & the West, easier access to new markets where China can dump its surplus products and even billions of dollars worth of counterfeit & imitation products that now flood markets in the Philippines. Not the least, literally pave the way for China to make inroads to geographically strategic spots, gaining controls of many of it and that can help accomplish its goals of expanding its capability to project military power in the future.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1967862123489783&set=a.1384033165206018.1073741828.100007980430332&type=3

Ultimately, it is the CPP's attempt to buy its way to indispensability among the governments of the participating countries, gaining global blanket impunity in anything, including in the advancement of the vested & selfish interests of its many corrupt billionaire members, & CPP's nationalistic goals (that includes hegemony in the South China Sea & Western Pacific).

Do we buy the idea? There are hundreds of cultures, dozens of governments (from sectarian to communist ones), a myriad of internal & regional conflicts within nations & sub-regions of Asia & the MidEast. A few countries have populations & governments with entrenched zero-sum & MAD thinking against their neighbor countries. There is a universe of potential triggers for conflicts & wars between many countries & population groups within nations. Once China pushes for its imagined and expected benefits, economic and then political, the whole Road & Belt idea collapses.

Hundreds of millions of people from China to the MidEast simply want to leave their home countries & permanently move to Europe, North America & the rest of the West. Meaning, that whatever their governments & public officials do they have lost trust in them, & barely harbor any hopes for a better future for themselves & their families (including at least tens of millions of mainland Chinese).

The CPP's initiative, the programs & projects, can crumble in its own massive weight, political complications & costs - especially social costs. Or the CPP's dream come true, neat & beautiful. But as a long-time student of business, life & governance, and & an experienced founder of (little) things, Murphy's Law is something to keep in mind in an ambition to try to re-arrange the present universe.

Sometimes, the status quo, shaped by a myriad of natural & other forces, is after all the most ideal & better scenario or at least the only viable or sustainable one. & really, sensible & experienced real-world private-sector actors don't easily & excitedly bet on anything no one completely understands after all, except the nationalistic leaders of the Communist Party of China.

What Prize, or of What Value Are Some Bits of Information? Why Someone Wanted to Destroy & Kill Us for These? His Other Motives?

(PLUS Some Thoughts on Why Many of the Malignant Problems That Plague the Philippine Society Persist)

There is no expedient to which a man will not
resort to avoid the real labor of thinking.
                                                 Sir Joshua Reynolds

Can a tiny bit of a very critically-important info acquired from some trash, be incomparably far more valuable than a similar one acquired through an elaborate, secretive, costly, risky and sophisticated scheme? Yes, of course. Two more very critically-important questions: Can data and information providers imperceptibly influence how raw data and facts are processed & used and can analysts introduce imperceptible nuances in their reports to subtly manipulate how their intended end-users think, make decisions and act or react? Of course. (This post was hurriedly typed. Our minds still reeling from the shock, the terror that we endured more than 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure when I can go back to this post, to edit and elaborate on what we really want to say.)
It’s always present, the personal biases, the traces of religious, political and ideological leanings of information / intelligence analysts. One can’t reasonably expect that the reports they make and submit

are completely sanitized from the macro and micro levels of the contextual environments and personal backgrounds that shaped their mindsets and their thinking. Thus, it is essential to establish the extent an end-user can be misled, misinformed and under-informed that can lead him to misjudge and miscalculate matters of interests and

bases of decisions and actions, that in turn can cause the unexpected failures of otherwise perfect executions of a perfect plan. In short & simple terms: the perfect execution of a perfect plan to accomplish the wrong and or unnecessary operation.

The same serious and long-term problems that plague the Philippine society ail most other societies, including the relatively corruption-free advanced Western ones. But, whereas there are traces of corrupt practices in, say, Germany or Canada, in the Philippines and China corruption is in massive scales, severe in gravity and systemic - deeply and very broadly rooted in all of the society encompassing cultural, political, socio-economic and

As US agencies work to save & rebuild many Filipino lives – treasonous greed makes as many lives at risk?
If there emerged an assumption of bad faith based on sinister motives on the party you wish to settle critical issues and negotiate with, you don’t go ahead sit on the table. The spirit of mutual distrust and long-standing hostilities between 2 parties can’t be solved with a diplomatic dance of deception in the case of opposing parties. However, what breaks a deadlock in high-stakes situations that needs rocked or eased? What softens a party’s rock-solid position totally unacceptable to the other? Or who can soften it?

President Obama’s impassioned desire to help solve some of the world’s problems “to make the world just a little better” doesn’t make his creative approaches any less objective, we think. There’s wisdom in Lincoln’s words: “The best way to defeat an enemy is to make a friend of him.” Or let’s put it this way: The best way to make an ever bigger monster of a monstrous enemy is to pose as greater as ever threat to his very existence, at least to the latter’s thinking.

Extremely complex dilemmas require, sometimes, basically, simple solutions. Like, instead of asking what or who solves a problem, or how, what about incorporating time-element? I mean, paying greater weight to it for the time-being. Positions, emotions, public opinions & moods, material and spiritual contexts aren’t static. It all changes, it all moves over time. Iran today is not Iran 10 years from now.
The forgiving mood and extremely restrained United States (& other powers) for some troublemakers of the world can all of the sudden reverse to an absolute resolution to tackle the snake right in its head at once (as some ripple effects always end up in American shores, in its society). You pose arrogant threats to its citizens or to its legitimate interests, your sinister secrets can be bared to all: You’re a corrupt “master-of-a-hair-raising-fungal-itch” thief of your people’s future. (That’s just one of the non-violent means.) You arrogantly use government powers to suppress individual rights…

We strongly oppose the idea of the Philippines joining institutions mainly bankrolled & controlled by China, until China develops a good number of strong independent institutions, likely decades (or a revolution) away. Yes we can indulge, as ever, in the generosity of Japan, the US & other major capable nations sure to increase their development, economic assistances & aids to the country. It's impossible to dis-entangle China's soft advancements of its political & military interests from AIIB, we think so.

The Dragon in the South China Sea to Others: Complain All You Can, As I Make More Artificial Islands & Super Structures in My Frontyard

Combined, the market size of the fast-growing economies of the rising Southeast Asian nations is not nothing, as their combined budget for Defense is.

But will China's buildup & behavior in the disputed areas of the South China Sea create a regional atmosphere beyond anxiety?

Already, the level of insecurity that it created among some members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is high, and this in turn can make the leaders of each country rethink their country's long-term political and economic relationships with China. In the coming years, it can (or should) translate to an accelerated increase in the percentage of the national budget allocated for defense in each of the member states of the ASEAN. And closer military cooperation between some countries and the western powers plus Japan and South Korea (perhaps).

China is perhaps inadvertently creating a situation counter to its long-term desire: lose it's overwhelming military superiority over individual countries in the region around the Sea. Why & how? Question of rational and irrational fears.

China: Drawing legitimacy for claims based on some ancient maps?
The fast-growing region of ASEAN, home to emerging tiger economies (and tiger Singapore), would not want national insecurity to accompany it's rise to middle-income status (2nd World economic status of member Malaysia now within reach).

The situation already is awakening the sense of nationalism even among the rather simple masses in the Philippines (supposedly those who don't care much about issues beyond what impact their daily struggles to survive or improve their economic lot in this country with the most grotesque inequality among the ASEAN member states).

Will this ignite a new sense of patriotism among even the young gen of Filipinos?

Justified fears & concerns or simply widespread and deep-seated Islamophobia among millions in Myanmar?

Philippine Big Banks Accepted & Protect Billion$ of Dirty Money?

Imagine a country like the Philippines, with a thousand more sea-going vessels than Myanmar, falling into some anarchy, civil war or total breakdown in law & order: Hundreds of all types of boats sailing to all parts of the world, & so many getting stranded. Far-fetched, at least for now. We hope it remains so...

When attitudes and behavior are shaped by deep-seated beliefs (fears, intolerance, etc.) the problem requires "surgical procedures" to remedy, if "long-term therapy" can spell phyrric victory to remedy, that President Aquino & his peace advisers and negotiators labored to make possible.

Humility & Remorse Can Repair What Anything Else Can't...

One of the important lessons I learned from the WWII: President Obama is right, to take minimalist and not maximalist positions, when stakes are high should negotiations fail. When France remained firm on demands what to Germany, itself reeling from devastations caused by WWI, were near astronomical amounts of war reparations, Hitler was able to rally the Germans they're being unreasonably pressured allowing him to build up a war machinery (and use that) that later changed the course of the history of Europe. Germany later conquered France (France actually surrendered).

More recently, when the Shiite government in Iraq excluded or at least not labored to share power with the Sunni or Kurd minorities - the mayhem of epic proportion in that country ensued and only now that it is abating (and also that ISIS is losing ground, literally and all) after war-level damages and losses to the entire country of Iraq (that saw Iran & the US discretely working to help save the day for the country and in a bigger region).

Among the practical benefits: an entire class of scientists and highly educated professionals not deserting the country affording it conitunued economic development with its already most advanced and prosperous economy in Africa with advanced capabilities in science and technology (It's nuclear weapons development program that the White government dismantled roughly 2 decades ago was more advanced than in present day North Korea).
